Cricketing connections

( Photo by Glenn Tucker )Chris Douglas, seen batting for Somerset in the first innings, is one of several players who have family Cup Match connections.

Cup Match is not just a Bermuda tradition...it’s a family one too with generations of family members playing in the Classic.Brothers Lee and Sheridan Raynor played for separate teams, Amon and Alma (Champ) Hunt for Somerset, Dexter and Richard Basden for Somerset and Wendell and Clay Smith for St. George’s. The Manders brothers Arnold, Andre and Anthony all played in the 1993 match - Arnold for St. George’s and Andre and Anthony for Somerset. In fact Anthony, a colt that year, stumped out big brother Arnold in the first innings. This year no less than 15 players are sons or nephews of former Cup Match players, including ten from the Somerset team, Stephen Outerbridge being the exception.
