Man is jailed for having crack cocaine in car park

A convicted drug dealer was yesterday jailed for a year after he admitted having crack cocaine.Vincent Jerome Robinson, 25, pleaded guilty to possessing a controlled drug with intent to supply in an increased penalty zone.He was caught with the drugs within 100m of Focus Counselling Services on October 1.Magistrates’ Court heard that an officer saw Robinson in Elliot Car Park riding a pedal bike around 9.15am.The officer saw Robinson approach a white CRV and speak with a man sitting inside the vehicle.He then walked to a nearby rock face, removed an object, and returned to the CRV, which subsequently left the area.The officer called for support, and at around 9.30 she and other officers stopped Robinson under the Misuse of Drugs Act.A search of the rock face where Robinson was seen retrieving the object revealed a paper twist under some pebbles. Inside the twist were eight smaller twists, each containing a white, rocklike substance later revealed to be 1.94g of cocaine freebase.The unemployed Pembroke resident appeared in Magistrates’ Court on October 3, where he denied the offence and was remanded into custody.His trial was expected to begin yesterday, but Robinson instead elected to reverse his plea.Robinson has previously been convicted of possessing heroin with intent to supply, and possessing cocaine.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner jailed him for 12 months, with time already served taken into account.
