Asthma prevalence has tumbled in Bermuda by a record 76 percent — but more than 2,000 people attended the Emergency Room in relation to the disease last year, according to Open Airways.The group is calling on residents to turn up for World Asthma Day today for tips on dealing with asthma.“Open Airways’ theme this year is ‘Little Things make a Big Difference’,” said asthma nurse Liz Boden. “We encourage everyone who has asthma to take control and learn how to manage their asthma.”Today at City Hall from 11.30am to 2.30pm the group will give out asthma information, plus free spacers and asthma-safe pillows and cleaning cloths.“In Bermuda, asthma is the most common long-term condition, affecting over 9,000 people,” Ms Boden said.“One in five children and approximately one in ten adults have asthma in Bermuda — one of the highest rates of asthma in the world.”Asthma is increasing worldwide to an epidemic level, but the disease is treatable.Useful website: www.openairways.com
