XL’s McGavick to lead Geneva Association

XL chief executive officer Michael McGavick will lead The Geneva Association into its fifth decade as its new chairman.He was elected to the position at the annual general meeting of the insurer-funded think tank in London this morning.The organisation, according to the insurance news website Insurance Insight, “has been carrying out its research role for the past 40 years and has established a global reputation for serious and forward-looking work.”Dr Nikolaus von Bomhard, who Mr McGavick replaces, said of the 40-year-old organisation: “Today, (it) is the unrivalled forum for CEO-level peer group discussion on insurance issues among the chief executives of international insurance businesses.”The Geneva Association’s press release stated: “Leaders of the world’s top insurers today elected Mr Michael McGavick, chief executive officer (CEO) of XL Group plc, as chairman of The Geneva Association with immediate effect. Mr McGavick takes over from Dr Nikolaus von Bomhard who steps down by statutory requirement after four years as chairman.“Mr McGavick was proposed to the Membership by The Geneva Association’s Board of Directors and received unanimous approval.”The press release also stated: “At the General Assembly, more than 60 chief executives of international insurance companies are discussing the strategic challenges facing the insurance industry with leading regulators, policymakers and economists.”Useful website: www.genevaassociation.org
