A stalled weather front that spent a few days parked over the island brought the definition of a wet weekend to the Labour Day holiday and yesterday, starting with thunderstorms on Saturday morning.

Days of rain gradually eased as high pressure edged into the region from the northwest, with the Bermuda Weather Service recording 4.46in of precipitation for the month so far.

Just over 8in of rain fell on the island during the 30-day stretch up to yesterday — and for the year to date, the island was well over its normal 38.34in, recording 47.73in precipitation.

As commuters headed back to work in the morning, the usual problem spots were awash, including a flood-prone hollow in Marsh Folly Road, Pembroke, just west of the junction with Bishop Spencer Road, and Woodlands Road on the outskirts of Hamilton by the Bermuda Athletic Association.
