Orchard finishes sixth in World Championships

Bermuda’s Laurie Orchard placed sixth in her age group (40-44) at the Ottawa ITU Duathlon World Championships on Saturday.Orchard had an overall time of 2:22.45, which included a 5k run, a 20l bike ride and another 2.5k run. The winning time, from Jayne Williams of Britain, was 2:13.23, almost two minutes ahead of second placed Lisa Buchler of the United States who had an overall time of 2:15.14.Three other Americans occupied the third, fourth and fifth places, with Nicole Sun Quee third in 2:17.03, Yvonne Carter fourth in 2:20.09 and Erica Ruge fifth in 2:21.45, exactly one minute ahead of Orchard who beat Canada’s Michell Ball by just three seconds. There were a total of 26 finishers in the women’s 40-44 age group.Orchard won a bronze medal in the women’s division at the NatWest Island Games last month in Bermuda and before that won the women’s title at the AON Triathlon at Clearwater Beach.
