Bacardi TriRock Series set for November
The SheROX Triathlon has been renamed the Bacardi TriRock Bermuda triathlon, organisers confirmed yesterday.
The Bacardi TriRock Bermuda Triathlon will be the first international triathlon race in the REI series and will take place on local shores on November 3.
It will be the eighth race on the REI calendar and will consist of both male and female competitors on a sprint course.
“On behalf of the Bermuda Department of Tourism, we are very excited to be a lead sponsor of the inaugural Bacardi TriRock Bermuda Triathlon,” said Billy Griffith, Director of Tourism. “We welcome all of our overseas visitors to our shores. With direct flights averaging less than two hours from the east coast and Toronto, Bermuda is the perfect place to train, compete or simply relax.”
The race begins on Sunday morning with a swim in the waters of the protected cove of East Whale Bay at the Fairmont Southampton’s Beach Club.
The bike and run courses will be along South Road, providing one of the most scenic sprint triathlon courses in the sport.
Race weekend caps off on Sunday evening with the ‘Bacardi After Party’ at the Bacardi worldwide headquarters building on Pitts Bay Road.
All legal drinking age participants will receive a finisher’s medal, technical T-shirt, red carpet finish, post-race breakfast and access to a post-race concert.
“Bermuda is the ideal destination to launch our first international event in the TriRock Triathlon Series and we know participants will enjoy their race and vacation in paradise,” said Molly Quinn, vice-president of Triathlon at Competitor Group, organiser of the TriRock Triathlon Series.
“Following the race, participants will truly celebrate the day’s accomplishments through our collaboration with Bacardi, as the company will host a post-race party at its picturesque headquarters to finish up the triathlon event.”
Clara Fay, director of corporate affairs of Bacardi, Bermuda added: “Bacardi is pleased to support this exciting and new world-class event on the Bermuda race calendar.
“The Bacardi TriRock Triathlon will attract visitors to Bermuda and it will provide our local athletes with an exciting competition. We are delighted to support an event that enhances the vibrancy of our community and solidifies Bermuda as a destination of choice for both sports and recreation.”
The TriRock Series is part of Competitor Group’s larger triathlon platform which features a world-class triathlon series, the world’s number one triathlon website and the world’s number one and two triathlon magazines — Triathlete and Inside Triathlon. The platform also includes The Nation’s Triathlon To Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, one of the most prestigious triathlons in the United States.
