Police are advising commercial property owners to secure their premises following a spate of burglaries.Pointing to “a persistent rise in commercial burglaries”, a Police spokesman said that three incidents were reported within 24 hours recently. The break-ins took place at properties on Laffan Street and Parliament Street in Hamilton, and Lover’s Lane in Paget.“Active inquires into all these incidents are under way. Officers from Central CIU are appealing to anyone that can assist us with these commercial burglaries to contact Acting Inspector Burns on 295-0011,” the spokesman said. The spokesman said that owners should follow a series of guidelines to make their properties less vulnerable to burglars, including fitting good quality locks on doors and metal bars on windows.Business owners are also advised to limit the amount of cash on their property and ‘U-mark’ all valuables for easy identification. Strong lighting and alarm systems are also recommended.“We are also asking for the public to keep an eye on individuals that are acting suspiciously around your property and contact police with a description of the individual,” the spokesman added.“Remember, thieves are opportunist and travel down the path of least resistance.
