PHC’s Robinson issues rallying cry after worrying defeat

PHC skipper Cecoy Robinson

Cecoy Robinson, the PHC captain, has called on his side to pick themselves up after their heavy home defeat against North Village at the weekend.

The Zebras were brushed aside 6-0 by their rivals at Southampton Oval, a thrashing that didn’t sit well with players and fans alike.

While the loss will go down as one of the heaviest defeats in the club’s history, Robinson has issued a rallying cry to get their campaign back on track.

“We will take the positives and negatives out of that game and move on,” said Robinson. “There is another game coming up soon, the season is not over so it makes no sense dwelling on it.

“We just have to pick ourselves up and move forward as a team.

“This is how the game goes sometimes in terms of results, but we will stick together and ride it out.”

PHC are propping up the table having picked up only six points from seven matches.

Three successive defeats to open the season was followed by back-to-back wins and a belief that they had turned the corner.

Two consecutive defeats, however, leaves the club languishing in their current position, an unfamiliar spot, with questions about their inconsistency hovering over them.

The skipper remains defiant in his belief that PHC will bounce back from their chastening defeat.

“It was tough for us, no doubt about that, but I also think the scoreline was a tough reflection of the game.

“We played in spurts and basically the difference in the match boils down to who takes their chances. That is usually the case in matches like this, where both sides are going to go for the result and have a never-say-die attitude.

“You have to take your hat off to Village as they capitalised on their chances. That’s what the game is about and we will bounce back.”

PHC return to action against Somerset Trojans on Sunday at Southampton Oval.

n Cally Blankendal and Denham United returned to winning ways when they beat Guildford Saints Under-15s 4-1 at the weekend.

A brace from Tamara Golder and strikes from Megan Payne and Meredith Ceribelli were more than enough to earn the win.

Daughter of Bermuda Football Association first vice-president, Cal Blankendal, Cally is in her first semester at Hare Field Academy.
