Buy one, get one free?

February 6, 2014

Dear Sir,

In all the 45 years or more that I have worked in the hotel industry, with contact of many guests, they have never asked for gaming. They would like to see Bermuda stay a paradise, not like other countries or Islands, as they say they can go to those places if that is what they want. The most they asked for is local entertainment. I wonder why Sir John Swan did not build a nightclub within that big building right on Front Street.

Guests are looking for somewhere to go at night after dinner within 15 minutes from the place they are staying, not having to travel from one end of the Island to the other. I have talked to other concierges, and support people in tourism, about this every year. I just don’t see were gaming is going to do much for this Island when all they want is to see and hear the steel pans, limbo/firer dancers, local bands, DJ’s and local shows to dance the night away, which we have.

I can remember when at the 40 Thieves, and Clay House Inn, busloads of people came to see shows from off the cruise ships and hotels. I use to take the guests out at night to see what we had to offer, and had a great time with them. Now, there is nowhere to take them. I would really like to know what Mr Hanbury has planned for this Island to get the guests to come back Are we going to be forced to have buy one, get one free?
