OBA’s youth wing to host forum on gaming

An open microphone forum has been called by the Future Bermuda Alliance, the youth wing of the One Bermuda Alliance, for the public to hear options and air views on the issue of casino gaming in Bermuda.

“We’re going to try to inform people, but we want people to know they can come and allow their voices to be heard,” said the group’s chairman, Robyn Swan.

“We’re asking the public ‘Are you ready to move forward?’”

A light meal will also be offered at the Sunday, February 23 event, to be held from 7pm to 9pm at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.

A yet-unspecified panel of tourism industry professionals will speak on “the Bermuda model, where tourism has been, and where we need to go”, Ms Swan said.

“They will share their expert advice, but we are encouraging members of the public to come with questions and concerns and an open mind, so that a healthy dialogue on the whole issue can be had.”

The last public forum on the issue heard Tourism Minister Shawn Crockwell suggesting a possible three integrated hotel casinos as the appropriate model for the Island.

The next town-hall meeting is slated for tomorrow, 6pm to 8pm, at the St James Church Hall in Somerset.
