Music to delight ahead of Valentine’s Day

Love was in the music as children arrived at school to the melodic sounds of clarinets, flutes and saxophones played by the girls from BHS at the Ramp during morning drop off last Friday.

From 8am, for 20 minutes, we welcomed the parents and the children, as they arrived at school until we had to go into class. We played love songs that parents might know, such as ‘Love Me Tender’ and ‘Unchained Melody’. One of the mothers was heard to say: “How lovely to hear the girls play the old favourite love songs.”

The children that had arrived stood in a group to listen to the music. So many parents hooted their horns and waved, which made us feel so happy. I thought it was kind of nerve-racking, but when I started playing I felt fine.

We had lots of practices to hear each other play so that we didn’t mess up on the real day. Since the start of January we had been practicing to make this performance the best that we could do. On Monday, February 3 we did a little performance for all of the Year Sixes. Student Emma Stegmann said: “It was great. I wish I played an instrument.” Another student, Shayla Calauro, said: “It was amazing, you all kept in time and you are very talented.”

Now that the concert is over, we will start to work on the Easter songs for our Easter Ramp performance. We do a performance every holiday and I hope you can see another one.
