Bermuda has been named one of the seven “coolest places to propose in the Caribbean” by USA Today.

“Ditch the predictable and go for something unique,” the article urges readers, before listing Bermuda as an “inspired idea” for popping the question “beyond bling in a box and breakfast in bed.”

“As Bermudian as a rum swizzle and the Triangle, the many moon gates that dot the island are primo for proposals,” wrote Melanie Reffes. “As the story goes, a sea captain built the first one in 1860 after seeing one in China with a sloping roof that represented the half-moon of the summer sky. Walking through one of these circular stone structures that are decorated with bright blooms is said to bring long life and a bright future.”
