Legendary Nicol star attraction at Island tournament

Squash great Peter Nicol

Peter Nicol, one of the greatest to grace a squash court, will be among six former top-ranked players coming to Bermuda for the Randall & Quilter Legends of Squash in April at Devonshire Courts.

At the pinnacle of his illustrious career, Nicol was ranked world No?1 for an astonishing five years and was crowned world champion in 1999.

Nicol captured 49 titles on the professional circuit and twice won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, in 1998 and 2006.

David Palmer, of Australia, Thierry Lincou, of France, Jonathan Power, of Canada, and Lee Beachill and John White, from Britain, complete the field of legends, with Bermuda’s Nick Kyme and Simon Parke, the former world No?3 from Britain, the other members in the round-robin event that will run from April 9 to 12.

“All the players are so excited to be heading back to Bermuda,” Nicol said. “We’re going to have some great games, get a chance to work with all the kids and hopefully some time to get to really see Bermuda. I can’t wait.”

Patrick Foster, the director of squash at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Assocaition, added: “We are all so excited. These are not only some of the best players of the last 15 years, but they now hold some of the best coaching roles around the world. They bring a wealth of knowledge to help with our squash programme and will be entertaining everyone each night with their amazing skills. It’s great for squash in Bermuda”
