Hospitality Career Fair to be held Wednesday

The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Bermuda Hotel Association will this week host the 2014 Hospitality Career Fair at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.

The Fair, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, is hoped to encourage qualified Bermudians to apply for job opportunities in the industry in advance of the tourist season.

According to organisers, this year’s fair will feature live, interactive career stations dealing with areas of the industry including spa, concierge, sports and recreation, culinary and food and beverage.

And for the first time, the application process for the job opportunities that will be available will posted online via the Department of Workforce Development’s Job Board at www.bermudajobboard.bm.

Several of the Island’s hotel will be taking part in this years fair, including both Fairmont hotels, Rosewood Tuckers Point, Cambridge Beaches, The Reefs, the Mid Ocean Club, Grotto Bay Hotel and Coral Beach Club.

The Bermuda Hospitality Institute and the Bermuda College will also be involved in the event.

Home Affairs Minister Michael Fahy said Government remain committed to improving the Island’s economy and finding jobs for Bermudians, saying the Career Fair is one initiative dedicated to that purpose.

“Our aim is to provide a different experience than in previous years, by making this event stimulating, exciting and interactive,” Sen Fahy said. “There’s an array of careers available in the hospitality industry and we will have the expertise on site to explain to individuals the criteria needed to ensure that applicants are successful in some of these fields.

“We are of the view that the hospitality industry can be a very rewarding career choice, and we want Bermudians to reconsider joining this very important industry.

“So, we are hoping that as many Bermudians as possible attend the career fair and take full advantage of the orientation and learning process so that they can find the right job for them.”

The Hospitality Career Fair is scheduled to take place between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Harbourview Ballroom.
