Easy win for Kyme

Nick Kyme had few difficulties against David Dodwell

Nick Kyme cruised to victory over David Dodwell in the men’s open second round of the Digicel Bermuda National Championships at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Club in Devonshire.

Kyme, a former champion whose world ranking reached as high as No 63, defeated Dodwell 11-2, 11-1, 11-3 yesterday. Noah Browne, a promising overseas-based college player, also won his match against Jacques Deverteuil 11-1, 11-3, 11-3.

In the other second round games, Andy Boyce beat Beckett Simmons, 11-4, 11-7, 11-9; Spencer Moss defeated Derek Wheeler 11-6, 11-8, 8-11, 11-6; Andrew Robinson triumphed over Dylan Muldoon 11-8, 11-4, 11-8, while Richard Brewer beat Laird Simmons 11-7, 11-7, 11-3.

On Monday, 21 players advanced to the second round where the top-ranked players enter the competition, with Malcolm Woodley defeating Patrick Neal in arguably the game of the round.

Woodley defeated Neal 11-5, 8-11, 12-14, 11-7, 11-4. Also in the first round, Jacques DeVerteuil took four sets to beat Gary Levon 9-11, 14-12, 11-7, 11-9, while James Dodgson also required four sets to defeat Dylan Pratt, 11-7, 11-6, 7-11, 11-4.

Daniele Bortoli was forced to withdraw from his match against Nick Nebard due to injury.

Play begins at 6pm each day, with the finals held from 5pm on March 22.
