Franklin wins thrilling clash

Micah Franklin won a thrilling encounter against Noah Browne to book a place in today’s semi-finals of the Digicel Bermuda National Championships at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Club.

Franklin defeated Browne in a fast-paced, physically demanding contest 11-5, 12-10, 11-9 to set up a meeting with Nick Kyme.

Kyme won his quarter-final match yesterday against John Fletcher 14-12, 11-4, 4-11, 11-5.

In the other quarter-finals, Robbie Maycock beat Stephen Smith 11-5, 11-2, 11-7, while Patrick Foster triumphed over Anthony Fellowes 11-7, 11-6, 11-2.

Runa Reta, Liz Martin, Rachel Barnes and Laura Robinson all reached the women’s open semi-finals yesterday.

Reta beat Tiye Williams 11-1, 11-4, 11-6; Martin defeated Joanne Bielby 11-8, 11-5, 11-6; Robinson advanced past Susanna Armano 11-3, 11-5, 11-9 and Barnes was victorious against Khalil 11-5, 11-1, 11-1.

Three men’s veterans semi-finals places were also determined, with Jan Brewer beating Bill Dickinson 11-3, 11-9, 7-11, 11-9, while Eugene Bothello defeated Tony Muldoon 11-9, 11-8, 11-8. Richard Brewer stopped Phil Barnes 11-7, 11-4, 11-6.

Beckett Simmons, Derek Wheeler and Nic Barton all claimed wins in the men’s classic plate second round. In the women’s open first round losers plate, Jayne Craig, Jackie Pinchin and Madeleine Rose all won their matches.
