Delusions of grandeur

April 13, 2014

Dear Sir,

Once again, Sir John Swan has given his vision of a future Bermuda ... presumably long after he’s gone. Big dreams and massive change are fine but I sincerely doubt that very many of his fellow Bermudians are willing to sacrifice their homeland so that he can get richer. A Bermuda of high rise apartment buildings and tramways all through Hamilton to say nothing of his plans for a waterfront that would make Hong Kong look like a rural village ... not my vision of the future.

These grandiose visions of change and development are actually almost self defeating. Sure, the ideas are always ‘phased in’ but in fact they are all so over the top that they will never get started much less phased in. Planning for the future, it seems to me, has to be both realistic and part of a consultative process. Sir John, why don’t you come up with something that the average Bermudian can actually get his head around and maybe make a start towards improving Hamilton and the surrounding area.

Don’t worry, you’ll make a profit..

Sincerely

Baby Boomer
