Prisoner charged with possessing drugs in Westgate

A convicted cocaine importer has been charged with having drugs at Westgate.

Jahni Bean, 31, appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday to answer a charge of possessing cannabis in the prison — an increased penalty zone — on October 24 last year.

He denied the offence, telling the court: “There was nothing in my possession.”

Magistrate Juan Wolffe adjourned the matter until next month for a trial date to be set.

Bean is currently serving a 15-year sentence for conspiring with others to import more than 2,000 grams of cocaine to the Island in early 2011.
