Youth basketball trials at Dellwood

The Bermuda Basketball Youth Federation will hold national team trials today at the Dellwood Primary School gymnasium with an eye on taking teams abroad this year.

Boys’ under-12 to under-14 players will be put through their paces from 3.30pm to 5pm, with the girls’ under-14 to under-16 training from 5.00 to 6.00.

The boys’ under-16 to under-18 participants will be last to take the court from 6.30 to 8.00.

Once the three squads are selected, there will be a parents’ meeting on Monday at the CedarBridge Academy, with a time yet to be determined.

“This year our plan for the summer is to take six teams to the Keystone Camp in Pennsylvania, one of the top-three rated exposure camps in the US,” a spokesperson for the BBYF said.

Ranked as the leading basketball camp on the East Coast, Keystone State Camps are directed by Pete White, one of the most knowledgeable and respected coaches in the state. White has won 17 District Championships in a row, a Pennsylvania record.

The camp includes a two-on-two tournament, free-throw tournament, three-point shooting tournament and three-on-three leagues with a championship tournament.

Past camp attendees include Kobe Bryant, of the Los Angeles Lakers, Deron Williams and Paul Pierce, of the Brooklyn Nets, and the Chicago Bulls’ Derrick Rose.
