Hall ponders future after release by Burton

Hall is determined to resurrect his career in England

Freddy Hall, the Bermuda goalkeeper, is looking for a new club in England after failing to land a new contract with Burton Albion.

Hall, who was on the substitutes’ bench when Burton lost to Fleetwood Town in the Sky Bet League Two play-off final at Wembley last month, told The Royal Gazette that he was hoping to sign a new contract with the club, having only joined them in March in a deal that kept him there until the end of the season. However, the club have confirmed that Hall was one of six out-of-contract players who would not be offered new deals.

The others leaving the club are Michael Symes, Gary Alexander, Jack Dyer, Zander Diamond and David Gray. Goalkeeper Dean Lyness, whose misjudgment from a free kick resulted in Fleetwood’s 75th-minute winner, heads a list of eight players who have agreed new contracts.

Lee Bell, Phil Edwards, Chris Hussey and Liam Slade have signed one-year contracts, while Lyness, Dominic Knowles and Marcus Harness have signed two-year deals. Three other players are still in discussions about new contracts.

Hall, 29, who was released by Toronto FC, of Major League Soccer, in December 2012 before heading back to England, will return to Britain before the 2014-15 season with a view to considering new options. He remains determined to resurrect his career in England.

“That’s a good thing about being a goalkeeper,” he said recently. “You can play until your late thirties, so I’ve got plenty of years left.”
