OBA silent on Landow donation

One Bermuda Alliance chairman Thad Hollis

A wall of silence last night surrounded a probe into a $300,000 donation to an One Bermuda Alliance-linked political fund.

Party chairman Thad Hollis — who is heading the inquiry into the donation by US tycoon Nathan Landow and associates made in the run-up to the 2012 general election — stonewalled requests for comment.

Premier Michael Dunkley said that he expected the findings of the report to be made public in around a week on May 19, the day he took over from Premier Craig Cannonier.

Mr Cannonier — who maintained he had done nothing wrong — quit the top job amid controversy over a trip to meet Mr Landow and business associates in Washington DC, accompanied by then-Attorney General Mark Pettingill, Tourism Minister Shawn Crockwell and the then-Premier’s business associate Stephen DaCosta, in March 2013.

Mr Hollis said the US cash — donated to the Bermuda Political Action Club (BPAC) — had never reached party coffers and launched an inquiry.

US-based OBA consultant Derrick Green, who was said to be linked to the BPAC bank account, also declined to comment.

He said yesterday: “I can’t speak regarding the Bermuda Political Action Club because there is an internal inquiry going on right now.

“I can’t comment until the chairman comes out with his statement.”
