We don’t need politicians’ sideshows

June 30, 2014

Dear Sir,

The recent poll results suggests that the electorate is still not decided on the way forward.

If there was an election tomorrow it would be too close to call — a dead heat.

How can some of us contemplate going back after seeing and feeling what transpired during the previous governance?

Many of us are still reeling from the ill effects of policies and the state of the economy which was left.

We experienced a rise in crime, healthcare costs, and generally a lowering of our usual way of life.

International Business declined and many foreign nationals left our shores resulting in an overall decrease in our living standards.

Unemployment came in like a thunderstorm as we became less friendly and perhaps xenophobic.

We now have an Opposition who have all the answers to the problems they caused.

Political rhetoric is taking over the House of Assembly instead of rational debate. Leaders are accusing each other of things which you expect from primary schoolchildren.

The Motion to Adjourn is now what the populace is being brainwashed with. “He was behind a grocery store doing this and that, and he was stealing from The Lord”. When will all this stop, or is this the way forward?

Will we see our elected officials doing the business of the people or will these sideshows continue?

The Government could be in a no-win situation, having inherited a Bermuda I never thought I would see.

Massive debt crippling our ability to do good for those in need.

A shrinking economy that the tide leaving Harrington Sound emulates, along with job prospects diminishing.

The Government is getting the blame for something they are not responsible for, but are now entrusted to make better.

If the present Opposition had won the last election would we be better off or would we be deeper, in a hole of despair?

The road to recovery is long. A road which will be difficult to travel as many stumbling blocks will be along the way.

However there is a way through, as many of us see the light at the end of the tunnel.
