Workers walk out after ‘tremor’

Worried Government workers left their Hamilton office block after it started to shake yesterday morning.

The tremors were caused by a faulty air conditioning unit on the fourth floor of Global House on Church Street.

One employee said: “The building was shaking — the air conditioning unit was shut off and the building stopped shaking.

“There was nothing official. There were no people going around raising the alarm.

“Some people thought something wasn’t right and went outside, but a lot of people stayed inside and carried on.”

Staff from Works & Engineering inspected the building and traced the problem before advising staff the building was safe to occupy.
