Blackburn was guaranteed of a medal after only three participants started the girls’ 18 and over 50 breaststroke final after several swimmers scratched from the event.

Fletcher, who will represent Bermuda at this month’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, won the silver medal in the boys’ 18 and over 50 breaststroke.

Ben Smith, the Bermuda coach, said: “So far the team is doing really well, lots of fast times which is good.

“Obviously many of the swimmers are preparing for meets that are going to happen later in the year, so to have these fast times right now are really important.”

Rebecca Heyliger and Ashley Irby won the silver in the girls’ 18 and over 50 freestyle and 11-12 200 freestyle. Heyliger touched the wall in 27.00 flat, while Irby completed her event in 2:17.49.

Daley and Blackburn were third in the boys’ 11 to 12 50 backstroke and 50 freestyle while Hassell rounded off the podium in the 50 backstroke. Hassell’s time of 32.35 qualified her for Canadian age groups and was also a personal best.

Bermuda’s medal tally stands at 18 heading into today’s final day of the championships at the Barbados Aquatic Centre.

“The morale is great and the team is getting along really well,” Smith added. “Tomorrow [today] we are going to have a busy day. There are a lot of events so we are hoping to add to our tally.

“Tomorrow we have the 100 freestyle and 50 butterfly and almost everybody is going to be involved in those two events so it should be good.”
