Governor’s attitude was correct

Dear Sir,

The recent march organised by the PLP was a wonderful example of a democratic society exhibiting persons rights to protest.

The refusal by The Governor to allow a Commission of Inquiry until more information is forthcoming suggests he is a man who does not jump without thinking first. In the event that unfair land grabs were carried out,it is only correct that evidence should be brought forward before issuing permission for an inquiry. He, the Governor, cannot operate on a whim, but only with sensible evaluation of the tasks at hand. It must be a difficult job, as many persons’ livelihoods are/could be at stake.

Watching VSB news tonight, former PLP MP Mr.Reginald Burrows was interviewed. He said that he had family members who were asked to leave their property in Tucker’s Town. He went on to say they were well compensated. In addition he agreed with the reporter that an inquiry would be an exercise in futility.

The Governor was correct in taking a wait and see attitude because of examples like the aforementioned. Unless clear and concise evidence of wrongdoing by those involved in the compulsory purchase of land in Tucker’s Town is forthcoming we do not need a costly inquiry! Until that time comes we must all keep our emotions in check and try to help Bermuda get back on the road to recovery!
