Wrong time for this discord

Protest: An estimated 2,000 people marched to Government House, led by Opposition Leader Marc Bean, on Tuesday.

July 16, 2014

Dear Sir,

With reference to the latest hype in the news regarding the land grab dispute, I would like to weigh in and agree that at least an attempt at reparations should be made. It should have been looked into years ago, even as far back as the UBP days and definitely the later PLP days. Not only would it have been the decent thing to do, but up until almost the end of the PLP Government we would actually have had the money to atone.

The problem I have with the hoop la going on now, is how on earth are we to pay for reparations now?

The government (and therefore the people of Bermuda) are so far in debt. People come in to our offices every day asking if we are hiring, or asking us to complete their Government Assistance Forms. We need so desperately to build this Island back up and to get our people back on their feet that this is not the time to have such a discord.

People are trying to make it through day-to-day in the present era. This dispute happened many years ago, it will certainly still be part of our history years from now, when hopefully we will be in a better position to make atonement.

This movement should not be forgotten, but it certainly should not be the major uproar that it is at this time.

Mr Bean surely you can be so passionate in a better way to help a wider range of our people that need help now.

SAD SACK
