Man charged with importing heroin

A Hamilton Parish man accused of conspiring to import drugs has been released on bail.

Luke Hill, 47, was charged with conspiring to bring in diamorphine, commonly known as heroin.

The alleged offence occurred between January, 2011 and December, 2012.

He was also charged with possessing more than $120,000 obtained through criminal conduct.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released Mr Hill on $10,000 bail and one surety.

The defendant was required to surrender his travel documents.

As these are indictable offences, Mr Hill was not required to enter a plea.

The case was adjourned to August 12.

• A Smith’s man has been accused of possessing cocaine.

In Magistrate’s Court this morning, Michael Jones, 32 of Hogfish Hill, pleaded not guilty to two charges.

According to prosecutor Carrington Mahoney, the offences occurred on April 4 in Hamilton and April 5 in Smith’s.

Mr Warner released the defendant on $5,000 bail with one surety for trial on November 5.

• Also in court, Tasha Burt, 20, of Devonshire pleaded not guilty to have conspired with others to import cannabis.

According to Mr Mahoney the offence occurred sometime between a date unknown and April 17.

Mr Warner released the defendant on $5,000 bail with one surety for trial on November 10.
