Celebrating the end of slavery

The 180th anniversary of the ending of slavery in Bermuda is to be celebrated at Somerset Cricket Club on Friday.

The venue for this year’s Cup Match will play host to Dr Femi Bada and Lashon Martin, accompanied by Edmond (Rivah) Smith, who will perform a reading of The E Word.

A spokeswoman for organisers the African Diaspora Heritage Trail Bermuda Foundation said The E Word was “an original and uplifting composition highlighting the real significance of emancipation and the positive impact of Bermudians of African descent on the history and life of our Island home.”

The reading will take place at 9.15am on the Somerset CC field.
