Bermudians get chance to support Gaza victims

Demonstrators on Sixth Avenue in New York protest against Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip.

A gathering in solidarity with the Gaza community has been called for tomorrow as hostilities continue between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas.

Shadow Immigration Minister Walton Brown said the open mic session, to run from 6pm to 8pm at the Bermuda Industrial Union Headquarters in Dr EF Gordon Memorial Hall, is intended to show support for the residents of the Palestinian territory who have suffered under a sustained bombing campaign in recent weeks by Israeli forces.

“We have the power only to show that we stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza and call on global powers to act responsibly to bring about both peace and security in what has become a war zone,” Mr Brown said.

The event is open to anyone in the community to share their views or express themselves through poetry or a song.
