Lambe spies Bradford deal

Helping hand: Lambe, right, celebrates with Archille Campion who scored a hat-trick for Bradford City against Bradford Park Avenue in a friendly at the weekend

Reggie Lambe will be hoping to impress sufficiently to win a permanent deal at Sky Bet League One side Bradford City where he is on trial.

A free agent since his release by Major League Soccer side Toronto FC in January, Lambe has featured in a handful of friendlies for City, where fellow countryman Nahki Wells starred before his big-money move to Huddersfield Town last season.

Lambe, who recently finished a short stint at Swedish side Nykopings, helped to create a goal in City’s victory over Bradford Park Avenue 3-0 at the weekend.

He also featured in City’s 2-0 defeat by non-League side Ossett Town, having been an unused substitute in their 0-0 draw with Blackburn Rovers, of the Championship.

Lambe is no stranger to the English game after making four League Cup starts and two Championship substitute appearances during his time at Ipswich Town.

He also played seven games while on loan at Bristol Rovers in League One in 2011.

n Mark Robins, the Huddersfield manager, has praised Wells’s workrate after he scored his first pre-season goal in his side’s 3-1 defeat by Oldham Athletic at the weekend.

Robins, whose side drew 2-2 against Barclays Premier League side Newcastle United yesterday, take on Bournemouth in their Championship opener on Saturday.

“That goal will have done him the world of good,” Robins said. “Nahki lives to score, and if he is not doing it, he feels he is not taking part in the game.

“Of course, that is not true because he runs his socks off. I have no qualms about his ability to get goals, but it was still good to see that one hit the back of the net.”
