Hall wins Chester deal

New club: Hall

Freddy Hall, the Bermuda goalkeeper, has earned a one-year contract at Chester City after impressing at the Conference Premier side in pre-season training.

The 29-year-old had been without a club since his release by Burton Albion at the end of the last season after a three-month spell at the Sky Bet League Two outfit.

Hall, who was on the substitutes bench when Burton lost to Fleetwood Town in the League Two play-off final at Wembley Stadium in May, was one of six players released by the club.

The former St George’s player will now compete with Jon Worsnop for the No 1 spot with last season’s first choice John Danby unable to commit to Chester’s new training model because of work commitments.

Chester, managed by Steve Burr, have been busy in the transfer market this summer, signing Chris Iwelumo, the former Scotland striker, and experienced defender Gareth Roberts.

Iwelumo, 35, was released by Scottish Cup winners St Johnstone, while Roberts, 36, was let go by Notts County. Chester finished 21st in the league table last season.

Hall, who has won six caps for Bermuda, has gained some first-team experience over the last few seasons, playing 11 matches for Major League Soccer side Toronto FC in the 2012 season, as well as making three appearances for League Two side Northampton Town in the 2011-12 campaign.

The former Bermuda Hogges goalkeeper will be hoping to be involved in Chester’s opening game of the season at home against Barnet on Saturday.
