Bermuda failed to advance to the quarter-finals of the Concacaf Girls’ Under-15 Championship, despite thrashing Barbados 7-1 in their final group game in the Cayman Islands.

LeiLanni Nesbeth and Teyah Lindo both grabbed hat-tricks in the lopsided victory to leave Bermuda third in the group behind Trinidad & Tobago and Honduras, who advanced to the next stage.

Bermuda required Honduras to defeat Trinidad in yesterday’s earlier game as well as overcome a five-goal differential to march on to the last eight.

However, Trinidad beat Honduras 2-0 to bring the shutters down on Bermuda’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage before they had even kicked a ball in anger against Barbados.

Bermuda took an early lead against the Barbadians when Nesbeth showed a defender a clean pair of heels before firing a low shot into the net.

The Islanders then won a penalty that Nesbeth converted after she was pulled down in the box.

At the other end, Bermuda then conceded a penalty that Micah Pond, the Bermuda goalkeeper, was unable to keep out.

Lindo then restored Bermuda’s two-goal cushion with a neat finish before adding her second of the game when she fired home from 35 yards to make it 4-1 just before half-time.

After the break Nesbeth was denied a hat-trick when she rattled the crossbar, but it was not long before she found her third with a close-range finish. Lindo claimed her hat-trick when she cut inside her marker and hit a shot that forced its way through the goalkeeper’s hands.

Symira Lowe-Darrell completed the rout late on to make it 7-1.
