Party cruise raises $1,000 for charity

Fun-raiser: Khomeini Taalib-Din’s Non-Mariners Booze Cruise raised $1,000 for The Womens Resource Centre.

A big-hearted businessman has donated $1,000 from a Non-Mariners Day party cruise to help keep a charity afloat.

Khomeini Taalib-Din chartered the MV Elizabeth for his Work Hard Play Hard Entertainment cruise earlier this month.

And now he has handed a cheque to the Women’s Resource Centre (WRC) to assist with the charity’s work with vulnerable women and their families.

Mr Taalib-Din, a former director of the WRC, said: “In doing this we hope to encourage others to think about the people in our community who need help and give something back.

“We are all in this together and we believe in supporting the local charities here.”

The former radio talk show host and community activist added: “I have developed a genuine concern for those in our community that need assistance.

“I believe in WRC’s slogan ‘Strong Women, Strong Families, Strong Communities’ and am more than happy to make the donation.”

Mr Taalib-Din handed the cheque to WRC executive director Patricia Frith-Hayward earlier this week.

The donation is the second made by his firm — last year, he donated $500 from a similar Non-Mariners cruise.

And he thanked local firms Butterfield & Vallis, Dunkley’s Dairy, BGA and Barritt’s, who donated food to help the fund-raising drive.
