Football apparel store Soccer Plus is riding a wave of excitement with a spike in jersey sales as the Premier League kicks off this weekend.

“Well, it’s the Premier League. Everybody is excited about it,” said assistant manager Paul Dyer. “Everyone wants to pick up their new jersey before the season starts. There’s usually a buzz, and a big rush at the start of the season.”

As far as popularity is concerned, reigning champions Manchester City are yet to catch up to the other favourites in jersey sales.

“Lately Manchester United haven’t been doing that well, but they still sell,” added Dyer. “Between Liverpool and Arsenal, they’re probably our most popular sellers right now. And of course there’s Chelsea. But teams like Manchester City, even though they won the league, not so much.”

Soccer Plus is expecting a new shipment, including Manchester United home and away jerseys, on Tuesday.
