Bermuda women set for next big adventure

Bermuda leave for Trinidad & Tobago today

Bermuda are ready to make some noise at the Women’s Caribbean Cup finals in Trinidad & Tobago next week.

Naquita Robinson’s side are in group A with Jamaica, Haiti and Puerto Rico in the eight-team tournament, with a trip to the Concacaf Women’s Championship awaiting the semi-finalists.

While Bermuda have struggled against the likes of Haiti and Jamaica in the past, Robinson, the coach, is confident that her squad’s preparation will give them a boost.

“It’s going to be a tougher group [than what they experienced in Turks & Caicos],” she said. “But the girls have been working since we got back, training seven days a week, and they are feeling very good about heading to Trinidad tomorrow.

“The Haitis and Jamaicas are teams that have traditionally put six or seven goals in against Bermuda. I think they may go into this tournament a bit overconfident and not know what it is that Bermuda is bringing. We’re definitely feeling very confident going into this.”

Bermuda sailed through the previous stage in the tournament, not losing a game on their way to winning their group. “I’m expecting us to advance,” Robinson added. “Obviously, as a coach, I’m expecting us to come top in our group, or at least second, and advance to the finals through the semi-finals and play for first or second.”

Advancing to the Concacaf Championship in October in the United States is the next step on the road to qualifying for the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
