Where are the jobs you promised?

The Opposition PLP last night demanded action on a Government pledge to create 2000 jobs.

A PLP spokesman said that news that company registrations had risen was “small comfort” to those who were “unemployed, running out of savings and seeing their Financial Assistance slashed.”

“Under the OBA, Bermudians continue to lose their jobs. Workers continue to see their [pay] packets shrink and their working hours plummet,” the spokesman said.

And the spokesman said that — in some companies — remaining staff were having to double up on their workloads to make up for vacant posts that had not been filled.

He added that the OBA had yet to say where the new jobs would be created and what industries.

“Bermudians are beginning to lose confidence in an OBA that breaks promises and who have caught repeatedly deceiving the people of Bermuda,” the spokesman said.

“The OBA promised 2000 jobs and this is a promise that requires a plan, timelines and results. It is one promise that Bermudians cannot afford the OBA to break.”
