The great haircuts and school supplies giveaway returns

Barbers Michael Chamberlain and Carlos Moreno work on Javontae Duhart and Jonorie Lovell during a day of free hair cuts and back to school supplies by the Five Star Barbershop and Caines Productions in 2013

Free haircuts and school supplies are being given away next month.

And kind-hearted residents are being urged to come forward to help fund the initiative. The project is being organised by brothers Wayne and Dwayne Caines and Five Star Barbershop.

More than 215 boys received a haircut last year, along with complimentary books, pens, pencils, book bags and other supplies.

And organisers are appealing for help this year to benefit even more youngsters.

“We are looking to our friends and community partners to assist with this worthy project, as many students are currently affected by the financial climate as a result of many parents finding it difficult to make ends meet,” the Caines brothers say on their online fundraising page.

“This year we will host the event on Thursday, September 4, at the St Paul’s Centennial Hall in the City of Hamilton, which will allow for more barbers from various barbershops around the Island to participate in a central location.

“Also, we would like to give away even more school supplies to persons in the community who are in need.

“We wish to ensure you that your kind donation will go directly towards helping our children, and subsequently our community, with this timely cause.”

The event will run from 8am until 5pm and is for boys aged four to 18.
