Speaking out of both sides of the mouth

Dear Sir,

I fully support any efforts by the Bermuda National Trust and BEST to object to the demolition of Queen of the East, a historic building from the mid 1700s on East Broadway, to be replaced by a six-storey apartment block. Don’t we have enough empty homes and condos? I am disgusted with the owner who allowed the building to fall into disrepair so that it is now an unsightly derelict building.

The One Bermuda Alliance, like all conservative governments (ie US Republican Party and the UK Conservative Party) puts the interest of big business before the welfare of the people and the environment.

The existing “concrete jungle” that blocks the view of the harbour starting from the BF&M building and continues west to the monstrosity of buildings that border the Hamilton Princess is a fine example of how our wealthy landowners intend to make Bermuda into a mini Hong Kong. To the east of the Queen of the East is the Renaissance Building that also blocks the view of the harbour. The OBA speaks out of both sides of its mouth. They profess wanting to rebuild our Tourism product and then turn around and grant building permits that will destroy the beauty that tourists come to look at and experience. Minister Fahy needs to withdraw the temporary reprieve he has given to CTX Ltd developers. And by the way, who are the shareholders of this company?
