Win or lose, our children need to learn to compete

National coach: Naquita Robinson

Naquita Robinson, a PE and health teacher at TN Tatem Middle School, is also the coach for the Bermuda Women’s National Football Team.

She said: “I’m in Trinidad. We need to step up as a country competitively. At the youth levels we need to start early teaching our children how to compete.

“They need to learn about losing and know that it’s ok and that they need to work harder. It’s so easy in Bermuda. If success isn’t right away they are given avenues to quit.

“I just played in a tournament where we got our butts kicked. But I have had dialogue with those coaches and seen how they have built their programmes Trinidad is on the end of their 10-year development programme. It’s phenomenal watching these same girls I saw in Santo Domingo and how much they have grown.”
