Kent Richardson earned a place on the podium at the inaugural XTerra Sleeping Giant Triathlon in Ontario, Canada at the weekend.

Richardson finished second in the male 50-59 age group and tenth overall among the 38-strong men’s field, completing the 1km swim, 23.5km mountain bike and 17k cross country run in 2hr, 45min 33sec.

The experienced athlete finished the swim in 19:55, the bike in 56:32 and run in 1:26:43.

Finishing fifth among the ten entries in the women’s field was Julia Hawley in 3:03:14. Hawley, the sole competitor in the female 50-59 age group, completed the swim in 21:30, the bike in 1:04.20 seconds and run in 1:34:03.

Scott Hill took the men’s title in 2:23:48 while women’s honours went to Charlotte McShane who finished in 2:28:50.

Meanwhile, Bermuda’s Flora Duffy is set to resume competing on the Xterra Triathlon circuit.

Duffy, who placed 20th at last month’s Triathlon World Championships in Edmonton, Canada, finds herself among the favourites in the lead up to the USA National Championships to be held in Ogden, Utah, on September 20.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed some of the finest moments of her career in recent months having won three USA regional Xterra Championships, the Oceania XTerra Championships and South African Xterra Championships and finishing second at the Zittau ITU Cross Triathlon World Championships in Germany. She also placed eighth at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
