Huge tankers stop by

Fuel is the order of the week on the high seas as two huge tankers zero in on Bermuda.

Tomorrow the Gizem Deniz Sultan arrives at the Commercial berth in Dockyard from St Lucia.

She’ll siphon off diesel for Rubis before heading on to her next port of call, the Bahamas, on Friday.

As the Sultan leaves the West End the Astrid Lady will trundle into the East End.

The Lady is a regular caller to Bermuda and is scheduled to arrive at the Oil Docks off St George’s at first light on Friday.

She is bringing in a range of fuel products for Belco and is scheduled to be on Island for just one night.

This week we say goodbye to the cable ship Wave Sentinel and her crew, who have been stationed in the West End since July.

She had been on call to repair fibre-optic cables on the Atlantic seabed, as well as lay new cables, for the last two months.

Now Wave Sentinel is heading back to the cooler waters of the UK for her next posting.

In the cruise world we are missing a regular caller up in Dockyard today.

The Celebrity Summit wrapped up her 19th call of the year last week but the Breakaway will be in as per usual for her 19th journey of 2014.

The Grandeur of the Seas is back in Dockyard at the weekend, arriving on Sunday and leaving on Tuesday.

Finally all three container vessels are in this week.

The Somers Isles arrives in Hamilton today and will be joined by the Islander tomorrow.

And the Oleander makes up the schedule for the week arriving in her normal Sunday afternoon slot.
