More than 30 employees from Montpelier Reinsurance Ltd marked the company’s annual Global Day of Giving yesterday by cleaning up a portion of the Railway Trail.

The project was organised in support of Friends of Bermuda Railway Trail (FBRT), a non-profit group working to connect and rejuvenate the trail in partnership with the Parks Department. Montpelier Re is one of four corporate founding members of FBRT.

Employees worked with the Parks Department to clear almost 20 truckloads of invasive vegetation and trash from the area near the old railway pylons at Store Hill. FBRT plans to use the pylons to rebuild a bridge over Store Hill and finally reconnect the Railway Trail from Palmetto Road near the bus depot all the way to Flatts.

Chris Harris, president and CEO of Montpelier Re Holdings Ltd, said: “I am pleased that a large number of our employees were able to participate in the restoration of a portion of the Railway Trail today.

“Montpelier Re has been a proud supporter of Bermuda charities through our foundation and volunteer efforts since 2003, and this exciting rejuvenation project provides yet another opportunity for us to give back to the community.”
