A punch-up at a cricket match had to be broken up by police last night

The fight broke out at White Hill Field, where Somerset Bridge were playing Southampton Rangers in a Twenty20 fixture, around 5pm.

An ambulance arrived around 5.15pm to treat the injured man, while police arrived shortly afterwards.

“It was among a small group of spectators — at least two men were swinging punches and kicking,” an onlooker said. “It only lasted a few seconds — afterwards, there was one man on the ground injured.”

The spectator said the group involved in the fight had already left the scene.

It is not known whether the injured man needed hospital treatment.
