Jones gets top BTA job

New role: Glenn Jones

The general manager of the now-closed MediaHouse has been appointed to a top job at the new Bermuda Tourism Authority.

Glenn Jones has been made part-time stakeholder relations advisor for the BTA until mid-December.

BTA chief operations officer Karla Lacey said that Mr Jones, who officially leaves MediaHouse, the parent company of the defunct Bermuda Sun, at the end of this month, will be responsible for liaison with groups like restaurateurs, retailers, hotels, politicians and unions, who all have an interest in the Island’s tourism business.

“By the end of the year we will have a process in place that provides stakeholders — and the general public — with a level of communication that is more frequent and more productive to the national discourse on tourism’s future in Bermuda,” said.

Ms Lacey said that, when Mr Jones became available, the BTA pushed forward a position planned for next year.

She added: “The team is pleased to have someone of his skills and experience to help us articulate and execute our mission to grow Bermuda’s tourism industry.”

And Ms Lacey said that the BTA would launch a recruitment drive to fill the post on a permanent basis towards the end of the year.
