Hall eyes first-team action at Oxford City

Fresh opportunity: Hall has signed non-contract terms

Freddy Hall, the Bermuda goalkeeper, has signed on a non-contract basis for Oxford City, the Vanarama Conference North side, in pursuit of first-team action.

It is understood that Hall hopes to use City as a springboard to return to the Football League and turned down several opportunities to become a back-up goalkeeper at teams in higher divisions.

Hall endured a frustrating three-month spell warming the bench last season at Burton Albion, the Sky Bet League Two side, before moving to Chester in the Vanarama Premier, where he made four appearances this term.

Chester and Hall parted ways last month when the 29-year-old’s representatives requested that his registration be cancelled after a permanent deal collapsed.

Hall had been playing without pay in an attempt to earn a contract at the Deva Stadium.

City’s most notable former player is Ikechi Anya, the Watford winger, who scored in Scotland’s 2-1 defeat by Germany in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier in Dortmund this month.

Bobby Moore, who won the 1966 World Cup as England captain, briefly managed City in 1980, with Harry Redknapp, the Queens Park Rangers manager, serving as his assistant.

City, who are fifth in the league table, are away to Shortwood United in a cup-tie this weekend.

Hall, who has won six caps for Bermuda, has gained some first-team experience over the past few years, playing 11 matches for Toronto FC in Major League Soccer during the 2012 season, as well as making three appearances for League Two side Northampton Town in the 2011-12 campaign.
