A 26-year-old woman attacked two friends with a machete when a fight broke out at Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club, a court has heard.

Chanel Smith is alleged to have ‘chopped’ down on Collisha Burch and attacked Dante Allen during the brawl.

While her friend, Dyshantee Crockwell, is accused of lashing out at Ms Burch with a bottle.

Yesterday Ms Allen’s sister, D’chelle Allen, told the court that Ms Smith waved the machete in her sister’s face before the fight erupted.

“She (Ms Smith) was waving it in my sister’s face saying ‘This is nothing to do with you, do you want it to have something to do with you?’,” she said.

“The machete was this close to my sister’s face so she grabbed it and pulled it down.

“Chanel Smith pulled it back up causing a laceration to my sister’s hand. It started bleeding.”

D’Chelle Allen told the court that another woman then tried to calm the situation down, but the fight erupted again in the car park after more words were exchanged.

”Chanel chopped her, she used the machete on Collisha,” she said.

“Collisha tried to use her hand to block it while she was still on the ground.

“Collisha then ran inside Jamaican Grill.

“I went inside Jamaican Grill with my sister because I had seen Collisha run inside. She was gushing blood.”

A jury at Supreme Court heard that the fight erupted outside the cricket club on the evening of November 9, 2013.

Prosector, Kenlyn Swan, told the court Ms Burch sustained a head wound that required staples, as well as injuries caused by the machete.

“This case is about a fight between two groups of women,” she said.

“It is not a fist to fist fight.

“On November 9, 2013 Collisha Burch attended Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club to socialise with friends.

“While she was there she saw these two defendants, along with another person who is no longer before the courts.

“Ms Burch went outside to meet two of her friends, and while they were there the defendants and their friends left.

“As their car passed Ms Burch and her friends a cup was thrown and it came into contact with one of the vehicles the defendants were in.

“This resulted in an argument and ultimately a fight.”

Ms Swan told jurors that Ms Crockwell took a glass bottle and hit Ms Burch, 27, in the head.

“Ultimately Chanel Smith took a machete and chopped at the complainant Burch,” said the prosecutor.

“As she saw the chop coming she raised her hand and was chopped in the hand.

“Dante Allen was also involved in being cut with the same machete and suffered other bruises in relation to this incident.”

Crime scene investigator DC Jewel Hayward told the court that he found what appeared to be traces of blood around the crime scene.

“Upon arrival the area was cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape to the east and west sides,” he said.

“I conducted a visual examination. I found several pieces of hair, or hair extensions.

“What appears to be blood was seen on the steps leading up to the entrance to Jamaican Grill.

“There also appeared to be blood in the doorway.”

Ms Smith denies wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm to Ms Burch, having a bladed article in a public place and the unlawful wounding of Ms Allen.

Ms Crockwell, 23, denies the unlawful wounding of Ms Burch.

The case continues.
