A woman has told a jury how she raised her arms to protect herself as a machete-wielding attacker chopped down on her.

Collisha Burch said that Chanel Smith was aiming for her head when she swung the blade at her.

And Mrs Burch described how Ms Smith’s friend, Dyshantee Crockwell, hit a bottle against her forehead after a fight erupted outside Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club.

The Supreme Court has heard that the brawl between two groups of girls broke out on the evening of November 9, 2013. It is alleged Ms Smith, 26, attacked Ms Burch, 27, and also assaulted her friend, Dante Allen. Ms Crockwell, 23, is accused of assaulting Ms Burch.

Yesterday Ms Burch took the stand in Supreme Court and described how she suffered injuries to her hand and head during the attack.

She said: “Dyshantee charged towards me and hit me in the forehead with the bottle. I hit her back and we were scuffling on the ground.

“I had to have stitches for my forehead later.

“I managed to get to my feet and as I was looking up Chanel came around and was chopping for my head. She chopped into my index finger in my palm. She used a machete to chop me and she was aiming for my head.”

Ms Burch said that she sustained nerve damage to her hand because of the machete attack and lost the feeling in her index finger.

The jury has heard that the altercation began after Ms Burch threw a plastic cup towards Ms Smith and Ms Crockwell’s car as they left the cricket club at around 9pm. Ms Burch said: “As we were talking I had finished my drink and I threw the cup to the side.

“As I threw it, the cup . . . it was a windy night, hit the back window of the car.

“They stopped the car and Dyshantee got out.”

Ms Smith denies wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm to Ms Burch, having a bladed article in a public place and the unlawful wounding of Ms Allen. Ms Crockwell, 23, denies the unlawful wounding of Ms Burch.

The case continues.
