Forecasters eye system

A pocket of low pressure that brought rain and sporadic thunderstorms over the weekend has a chance of developing into a bigger storm, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in the US.

The system, which was expected to pass to the Island’s west this morning, will be followed by more showers and possible thunderstorms this week.

As of this morning, the NHC have forecast that the storm system has 30 percent chance of strengthening into a cyclone over the next two days. Tropical cyclones include depressions and tropical storms as well as hurricanes.

In a special notice this morning, the Bermuda Weather Service stated: “Shower bands approaching from the south could bring further squalls and isolated waterspouts, particularly towards the east. This will continue to be monitored for any further development.”
