Remembering the fallen

Remembering: A wreath lies on the altar during Sunday’s memorial service for the Island’s war dead

Islanders descended on the Anglican Cathedral in Hamilton on Sunday to remember those Bermudians who fought and died in the First World War.

The memorial service was attended by Governor George Fergusson, Premier Michael Dunkley and Acting Opposition Leader, Derrick Burgess as well as other local dignitaries.

And it marked 100 years, almost to the day, since the first Bermudian, William Smith, was killed in action.

The name of each Bermudian to die in the Great War was also read out during the service, which was conducted by the Bishop of Bermuda, Reverend Nicholas Dill.

While Jack Lightbourn, President of the Bermuda War Veterans Association, read a prayer.
